About Ka Huna Massage

What is Ka Huna massage?

Ka Huna massage and bodywork differs from most traditional massage styles in that it takes a heart-centred holistic approach that focuses not only on the physical, but also emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Ka Huna massage is an ancient Hawaiian practice that is derived from the teaching and healing arts of the Kahunas, 'the keepers of secret knowlege' who are the expert healers in Polynesian culture.

Ka Huna practitioners use their palms, forearms and elbows in long flowing rhythmic strokes that mimic the movement of water in a hula style dance across the body. Constant contact is maintained with the receiver to allow the muscles and fascia to relax and release, allowing for deeper tissue work using a more gentle approach.

For some, Ka Huna is simply a beautiful way to relax, unwind and release muscle pain and tension. For others, Ka Huna massage can be a deeply emotional experience that helps to ground, centre and restore a sense of calm.

At Fleurieu Ka Huna Massage, each  massage begins with a consultaion about the client's needs and goals, whether that is simply to relieve muscle pain and tension, or to begin to shift long-held emotional and physical blockages. The role of a Ka Huna bodyworker is always to provide a safe, nurturing and supportive environment and a massage tailored to the unique needs of each individual.
